Firefighter: Body in Car in Vt. River

The car is submerged in the Lamoille River

A firefighter says there is a body in a car submerged in the Lamoille River off Vermont Route 15 near the Wrong Way Bridge in Cambridge.

Cambridge Second Assistant Fire Chief Dan Wyckoff says the vehicle was traveling west early Monday morning when it went into the river and headed upstream, before being turned around by the current.

Wyckoff tells the Burlington Free Press the effort to reach the car and its occupant is a "recovery process."

He says divers made it to the vehicle but the current pushed them over it.

He says it's unclear if the vehicle can be recovered before dark on Monday.

Traffic on Route 15 has been reduced to one lane. Police are urging motorists to find alternate routes.
