A 6-year-old New Hampshire girl who had the presence of mind to run home and call 911 after a tree fell on her grandfather is being lauded for heroism.

Television station WMUR reports that Jacey Montague and her grandfather Tom Montague of Alton were out for a walk when the elder Montague shook a tree and it fell on him.

Jacey ran home and called 911, and emergency medical technicians were on the scene within 10 minutes. Tom Montague is recovering from a broken neck and pelvis and other injuries at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

On Friday, Alton firefighters gave the girl a medal and a $10 reward. Jacey says she'll use the money to take her mom out to dinner.
