Firefighters rescued a mother from a house fire in Wolcott on Monday morning after arriving at the burning home and hearing her children screaming that their mother was trapped inside.
The family was asleep when fire broke out at 2 Garrigus Court in Wolcott just before 4 a.m., but one of the children, Katie O'Brien, woke up, woke her brother, Colin, and called 911.
When firefighters arrived, Katie and Colin were outside the home with their pets, yelling for someone to help their mom, who was still inside the home.
Firefighters spotted the woman waving her arms from a window in a room engulfed in flames.
"From then on, we were just hoping and praying that they could get my mom out," Katie said.
The fire was so intense that firefighters couldn't go up the stairs, so they had to use a ladder to get to the window and pull her out of the building.
"It was scary. It was just the scariest thing in my life. I replay it in my head and can't get it out of my head at all," Colin said.

Wolcott Fire Chief Kyle Dunn said the woman was a woman coming out of a second-floor window, about 12 feet up.
Now she is recovering from smoke inhalation.
After grabbing some charred personal belongings, there was not much left salvageable in the home, but the family said they are grateful to the firefighters.
Wolcott's fire marshal continues to investigate the cause of the fire.
