Former City Attorney Convicted in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Christopher Sullivan had pleaded not guilty

A former Rutland, Vermont, city attorney has been convicted of a fatal hit-and-run crash in 2013.

Christopher Sullivan had pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of the crash and driving under the influence with death resulting. The crash killed 71-year-old Mary Jane Outslay.

A jury convicted Sullivan Thursday afternoon after a three-day trial.

Police said Outslay, of Mendon, was crossing Strongs Avenue in downtown Rutland the night of April 10, 2013, when she was struck and killed by a vehicle that continued south. The 54-year-old Sullivan later identified himself as the driver.

Sullivan has been jailed on $500,000 bail. He awaits sentencing.
