Former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has announced that he will not accept outside consulting pay for Boston's bid to host the Olympics.
The announcement came hours after Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said the former governor should not be paid for his travel on behalf of Boston 2024. The group had announced that Patrick would make $7,500 a day during such trips.
Patrick says he plans to take a full-time position instead of receiving the consulting payments.
"Because I think the Olympics could be good for the Commonwealth, I will continue to help as and when I can, but not for a fee," Patrick said in a statement.
