Former High School Sports Star Killed in Crash

Jaime Ortiz, who starred at Southbridge High School, was a passenger in a vehicle that hit a tree Saturday

The victim of a fatal weekend car crash in Southbridge, Massachusetts, has been identified as a former sports star at the town's high school who went on to play football in college.

Police say 21-year-old Jaime Ortiz was a passenger in a vehicle that struck a tree early Saturday morning.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other men in the vehicle required hospitalization but their injuries are not considered life threatening.

Police believe speed was a factor but the crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Ortiz played football and basketball at Southbridge High School and went on to play football at Westfield State College for a season.
