Former Police Chief Charged With Witness Tampering, Perjury

Former Police Chief Connifey was charged Monday with misdemeanor counts of official oppression and false swearing

The former police chief in Bartlett, New Hampshire, has been charged with witness tampering, perjury and other crimes.

The attorney general's office says Timothy Connifey improperly controlled the prosecution of a woman with whom he had both an intimate and a business relationship. He's also charged with lying to a grand jury and trying to influence her testimony to the grand jury about their relationship. Besides the two felonies, Connifey was charged Monday with misdemeanor counts of official oppression and false swearing.

The woman also has been charged with false swearing in connection to her grand jury testimony.

Connifey became Bartlett's police chief in 2002 and retired last January. A phone listing for him could not be located Tuesday. He is due in court Jan. 6.
