Former President Bush Healing Nicely After Summer Fall

Former President George H.W. Bush is healing well after taking a fall this summer, and he's ready to head south for the winter.

Longtime chief of staff Jean Becker says Bush's doctor has informed the family the former president's neck is "healing nicely." He's been out and about, and has even been on his speedboat.

He fractured his C2 vertebra, the second one below the skull, back in July. His doctor said at the time that it normally takes three to four months for such an injury to heal.

Bush spends summers in Maine and winters in Texas, and he'll be headed south this week.

He is the father of Republican former President George W. Bush. Another son, Republican former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, is running for president in 2016.
