Friend: Firearms Instructor in a Coma, on Life Support

A family friend of a firearms instructor who was shot in the face and abdomen says he is in a coma and on life support.

Thirty-one year old Veronica Lewis of Worcester, Vermont, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to attempted first-degree murder in the Monday shooting of 48-year-old Darryl Montague at his Westford, Vermont, home, where he runs a firearms business. Police said Lewis, scheduled for a lesson, also brought a hammer with her.

Montague is from Claremont, New Hampshire. Family friend Michael Charest tells the Eagle Times (http://bit.ly/1CMAGii) he's in stable, but critical condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center. He said Montague has undergone several surgeries and has used 37 pints of blood.

Charest is asking that people donate blood, both in Vermont and New Hampshire. There are several upcoming blood drives in the area.
