Friend of Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect Granted New Lawyer

Matanov was granted a new lawyer at a court hearing on Thursday

A friend of the brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombings was granted a new lawyer to defend him against charges he obstructed the investigation by deleting information from his computer and lying to the FBI.

Defense lawyer Edward Hayden says the suspect, Khairullozhon Matanov, has asked him to withdraw.

At a federal court hearing Thursday, Matanov was granted a new layer. Paul Glickman will now represent him.

Matanov is accused of lying about contact he had with Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, including dinner at a restaurant the night of the attack in 2013. He isn't accused of participating in the bombings or knowing about them in advance.

Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured in the bombings.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev died following a shootout with police. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is scheduled for trial in January.
