Friend of Marathon Bombing Suspect Renews Request to Move Trial

Robel Phillipos charged with lying to authorities

A friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has renewed his request to move his trial out of Boston.

Robel Phillipos is charged with lying to authorities. His lawyers filed a change of venue motion Monday asking that his federal trial be moved to Springfield; Providence, Rhode Island; or Portland, Maine.

A judge rejected an earlier change-of-venue motion.

His lawyers argue that prejudicial pretrial publicity has made it impossible for Phillipos to receive a fair trial in Boston.

Phillipos is charged with lying to investigators about being in Tsarnaev's dorm room at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth several days after the bombing, when two other Tsarnaev friends removed a backpack, laptop computer and other items.

Phillipos' trial is currently scheduled to start next week.
