Fully-Loaded Propane Tanker Rolls Over

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday in Vergennes

State police were called to an accident scene after receiving reports that a fully-loaded propane truck crashed and rolled over onto its side in western Vermont.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday in Vergennes. A portion of Monkton Road near its intersection with U.S. Route 7 was closed for almost four hours.

Vergennes Police Sgt. Brent Newton says the accident was caused when the truck's right wheels became caught in a ditch estimated to be four to five feet deep.

Initial state police reports suggested that the truck ignited. That was later found to be erroneous. Newton says no propane leaked and there was no fire.

The driver of the AmeriGas tanker, who wasn't identified, was uninjured.
