A fundraiser will be held Sunday to benefit Denna Laing, the professional women's hockey player injured during a Dec. 31 hockey game at Gillette Stadium.

FMC Ice Sports, which operates 24 ice skating rinks across Massachusetts, will donate $1 from every public skating admission and match any additional donations made at its rinks on Sunday, Feb. 14.

"Denna is part of our ice sports community and an amazing example of how personal courage and positive outlook can overcome even the most tragic events," FMC President Rob McBride said. "We all shared the heartache of Denna's injury on Dec. 31 and have been inspired beyond words since that day watching her battle back with tenacity and a spirit that knows no bounds."

Laing, 24, sustained a severe spinal cord injury when she struck the boards in a game between the Boston Pride and Montreal Canadiennes held before the NHL's Winter Classic.

FMC said it chose to honor Laing on Valentine's Day because 14 was the number she wore when she played for Princeton University's women's hockey team.
