Republican Ohio Gov. is on a campaign swing ahead of a first debate that could be crucial in determining whether he can make it all the way to the White House.
The presidential candidate discussed many topics, including the shooting death of a black man at the hands of a University of Cincinnati police officer.
Twenty-five-year-old officer Ray Tensing is charged with the murder of 43-year-old Samuel DuBose after stopping him for a missing front license plate. Kasich addressed the issue of police brutality.
"We started many months ago a task force on police in the community, and what we know is that the community wants the police, but they want to be respected, and the police want to be in the community, but they want the community to know their challenge. It's a ballancing act," said Kasich. "We now have in Ohio the first outline of a policy on when you use deadly force, that every officer needs to know."
Kasich also discussed the controversy surrounding Planned Parenthood, touched on fellow Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, and gave a Pittsburgh Steelers fan's viewpoint on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
