Fire Officials Say Fall River Mill Blaze ‘Suspicious'

The cause of a general-alarm fire that ripped through a vacant mill in Fall River, Mass., early Saturday morning is "suspicious," fire officials said.

Firefighters from around the region are continuing to pour water on the Weaver Street mill, which was heavily damaged in the blaze.

There were no reported injuries in the fire, which started on the second floor around 3 a.m.

Burning embers and heavy smoke continue to threaten the structure and surrounding buildings as windy weather conditions persist, said Fall River Deputy Fire Chief John Lynch.

Firefighters are pouring water on surrounding buildings to prevent embers from igniting them.

It is unknown if the building was occupied.
