George Lucas, the creator of the "Star Wars'' movie empire, has donated $1.5 million to the Norman Rockwell Museum.

The Stockbridge, Massachusetts-based museum said the grant from the George Lucas Family Foundation will enable the museum's digital learning and engagement division to create multi-media experiences for on-site and online visitors as well as for traveling exhibitions. A traveling exhibition this fall is expected to include a digital gallery-tour accessible from mobile devices.

Norman Rockwell Museum Director Laurie Norton Moffatt called it a "truly transformational grant.''

The museum said in a statement that Lucas is an avid collector of Rockwell pieces and shares in the museum's belief that the illustrator's art transcends generations and cultures, communicating universal ideals related to community, family, and human rights.
