A woman was located safely at sea off the coast of Harwich, Massachusetts on Wednesday, thanks to a good Samaritan.
Coast Guard officials said a boat owner discovered an empty inflatable motorized boat at about 3:30 p.m., south of Allen Harbor.
A search by the Coast Guard was launched along with the Harwich Harbor Master who was able to locate the boat, Eva Marie. They then spotted a woman in the water and brought her to shore.
The woman, who was not identified, was treated for fatigue and mild hypothermia.
Coast Guard officials said the woman was then reunited with her companion who had swam over a mile to shore to look for help after they had both fallen into the water and lost their boat.
"Local harbor masters and the Coast Guard have always had an extremely close working relationship and when a crisis like this occurs our history pays large dividends, resulting in a seamless execution of the case," said Stewart Smith, the Chatham Harbor Master. "We train together and share a history as professional mariners."
