Memorial Mass Held for ‘Baby Doe'

House Speak Robert DeLeo, who lives in Winthrop, arranged the Mass, which happened Wednesday morning

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker and Attorney General Maura Healey were in attendance for a memorial Mass for “Baby Doe,” the unidentified girl found on Deer Island in Winthrop.

House Speak Robert DeLeo, who lives in Winthrop, arranged the Mass, which happened Wednesday morning at Holy Spirit Chapel across from the State House.

Since the girl's body was discovered on June 25, investigators have released a computer generated image of what they think the 4-year-old may have looked like.

Eighty-four electronic billboards throughout Massachusetts share the photo along with the anonymous tip line and number to text. They're hoping any clue can help identify this innocent child.

In the Mass, Father Walsh said her death could bring a change in the community.

He said," Our little sister has not died in vain. And not having a name thus far, she has become an icon for all children. If we ever come to know her identity on a deeper level, she will always be the one who's silent cry will remind us to get to know our neighbors."

Police thank the public for their continued interest and ask anyone with information to text GIRL to 67283 or call the tip line at 617-396-5655.
