Gov. Patrick: Sex Offender Board ED Is Out

Days after the dismissal of Chair Saundra Edwards, Mass. gov. confirms Executive Director Jeanne Holmes would be "stepping aside"

The shake-up of the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board continued Monday when Gov. Deval Patrick confirmed that Executive Director Jeanne Holmes would be leaving her position.

Holmes was placed on administrative leave Wednesday, when Saundra Edwards was dismissed as the board's chair.

"The chair chooses the executive director," explained Gov. Patrick. "And so the executive director will be stepping aside, as well."

The comments were the governor's first since returning from an overseas trade mission. Gov. Patrick cited a "cumulative loss of confidence" in officials at the board, which tracks and classifies sex offenders.

Among the factors he discussed was a recent settlement with a hearing officer who claimed to have been pressured to change a ruling in a case that involved Patrick's brother-in-law, and surfaced during his campaign for governor in 2006.
