Passengers Run From Green Line Trolley Fire at Copley Station

Flames were spotted on top of the trolley, according to an official from the MBTA.

Riders at Copley Station were interrupted Saturday after an MBTA Green Line trolley caught fire.

Flames were spotted on top of the trolley, according to an official from the MBTA. A spokesperson claims the small fire started after a mechanical problem with the overhead wire. No one was hurt.

The scene was chaotic. Jason Kaplan was riding the train at the time of the incident and claims he was unaware of the situation until someone yelled, "Everybody off the train. There's a fire on the train."

"Really before I even had time to process it, this entire flood of people started to leave," Kaplan said. "I just went with them and only when I turned around did I see that the whole roof of the car I was in was on fire."

A Green Line employee extinguished the fire and there were no injuries reported.

The trolley was removed from service and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
