Grenade Found in Vermont Home; Police Department, Area Evacuated

Homes, businesses and the South Burlington Police Station were evacuated after a resident found a grenade in her home Saturday in Vermont.

According to police, the resident was going through her grandfather's belongings when she came across the device around 1:30 p.m. She brought it to the police department.

Because it was not known whether the grenade was live, police evacuated the station, along with businesses and residences in the area. Shunpike Road and Gregory Drive were briefly closed and fire crews responded to the area.

The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad removed the grenade.

Police remind residents not to touch any potentially dangerous devices, advising people to leave immediately and call authorities instead.
