RI Group Seeks People to Clear Snow for Elderly, Disabled

The director of Serve Rhode Island is seeking able-bodied volunteers to shovel and plow snow for elderly and disabled residents

If you're willing and able to help others clear out from the massive snowstorm expected to bring up to two feet of snow to Rhode Island, Bernie Beaudreau is looking for you.

The director of Serve Rhode Island is seeking able-bodied volunteers to shovel and plow snow for elderly and disabled residents.

Beaudreau says people can apply on the group's website. Elderly and disabled people needing snow removal help can call Serve Rhode Island at 401-331-2298 beginning Monday. The storm is expected Monday night.

Beaudreau says volunteers agree to a background check and to waive liability for injuries. They also agree not to contact the people they help.

The volunteers get specific assignments and residents are notified when to expect them.

He said the group helped about 150 people last winter.
