An act of political vandalism could land Gumby in the pokey.

"I haven't watched cartoons since the 1960s, so I don't think it's going to affect my viewing habits," said Steven Salvucci of Easton, Massachusetts.

Salvucci says on Halloween, a man dressed as Gumby walked on his lawn, pulled up his Donald Trump campaign sign and destroyed it.

"You could not write the story that had unfolded in this election," said Salvucci.

He says the costume-clad man then bounced the sign off the ground, hitting the side of his house and scaring his wife.

"It's sad, but funny at the same time," Salvucci said.

These stories of campaign sign vandalism are taking place throughout New England, with Trump signs recently stolen in Walpole. It's happening across the country, and across the aisle, as well.

Salvucci said he believes whoever vandalized his sign lives close by, since he was walking with children at the time.

"I think it's just very unfortunate that people won't allow me to express my opinion in a pretty peaceful way," said Salvucci. "It's just a sign in the street."

Salvucci said he wants the man to apologize to his wife and is requesting a conversation over coffee where they can discuss their political differences.
