Gun, Drug Paraphernalia Found in Bag Near School

Police are investigating the discovery of a bag containing a gun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia near a city school

Pittsfield, Massachusetts, police are investigating the discovery of a bag containing a gun, ammunition and drug paraphernalia near a city school, but say there is no evidence students or staff were in danger.

Police say the bag was found by the parent of a child at Reid Middle School on Monday afternoon about 150 yards from the building.

The parent was walking his dog along the property line while waiting for his child.

The parent, Jason Carrigan, says he thought it was trash, but when he opened the bag and saw the gun, he immediately called police.

Schools Superintendent Jason McCandless tells The Berkshire Eagle an automated phone message was sent Wednesday to inform families and staff. He says there is no evidence the bag belonged to a student.
