Jean Jacques has been charged with the murder of Casey Chadwick in Norwich.

A Haitian immigrant who served a 17-year prison sentence for attempted murder has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for stabbing and killing a Connecticut woman last year, just months after he was released.

Jean Jacques was sentenced on Monday to 60 years for the stabbing death of 25-year-old Casey Chadwick on June 15, 2015 in Norwich. Officials said he killed her just months after being released on parole after an attempted murder conviction.

Authorities told the Norwich Bulletin the stabbing would not have happened had Jacques been deported and state officials said Jacques appeared to fit all the necessary criteria for deportation and was remanded into ICE custody.

Jacques, who was arrested in 1996 and charged with attempted murder, was sentenced to 20 years in prison and was released on parole on January 16, 2015.
