Harvard University Investigating Computer Data Breach

Harvard University is investigating a security breach into its data systems.

The Ivy League school announced Wednesday that the intrusion into the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and central administration information technology networks was discovered June 19.

A joint statement from Provost Alan Garber and Executive Vice President Katie Lapp says there is "no indication that personal data or research data have been exposed," but the breach may have compromised email login information.

Administrators are recommending that people who work at the affected departments and schools change their passwords.

The university said it not announce the breach right way because it did not want to jeopardize efforts to secure the system.

Federal authorities and private security experts are aiding the investigation.
