Health Inspector Eats Lunch at Chipotle in Boston's Cleveland Circle

Boston's chief health inspector had lunch Monday at a recently reopened Chipotle restaurant linked to a norovirus outbreak that sickened nearly 140 people last month.

Buddy Christopher dined at the Cleveland Circle restaurant as a show of confidence. The establishment, shuttered for weeks, reopened over the weekend.

Dozens of customers, many of them Boston College students, were believed to have contracted norovirus at the Mexican fast-food restaurant.

Norovirus can spread from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces. It is very contagious and can spread quickly in places such as daycare centers and cruise ships.

Authorities have said the outbreak was likely caused by a sick employee and is not related to E. coli cases that shuttered dozens of restaurants in Oregon and Washington in October. New cases of E. coli were reported last month in Kansas, Oklahoma and North Dakota.

Officials said all employees have completed a food safety program and the restaurant has been restocked with fresh ingredients.
