High-Ranking Boston Firefighter Convicted of Fraud, Larceny

District Chief Edward Scigliano IV, of Kingston, was convicted Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court of procurement fraud and larceny over $250.

A high-ranking member of the Boston Fire Department has been convicted of stealing nearly $50,000 in public money to pay his bills and obtain personal items.

District Chief Edward Scigliano IV, of Kingston, was convicted Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court of procurement fraud and larceny over $250.

Prosecutors say Scigliano directed the department's vendor of emergency vehicles to deposit $32,000 in checks to his personal credits card accounts. He told the vendor he was authorized to receive the money.

Prosecutors say he also directed another vendor to buy more than $17,000 worth of items for Scigliano's personal use, including a gas grill, exercise equipment and a 52-inch television.

Scigliano has been on unpaid leave since his indictment. Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn says he'll move to have him fired.
