High School Students to be Awarded Scholarships at Sox Game

High school students from Rhode Island will be awarded scholarships during a pregame ceremony at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox Foundation says it will introduce recipients of the Rhode Island Red Sox Service Scholarships before Saturday's Red Sox game.

Saturday is Rhode Island Day at Fenway Park. Rhode Islanders will throw the ceremonial first pitch, sing the National Anthem, carry the colors and say, "Play ball."

The scholarship program is awarding 35 students from 35 different Rhode Island public schools with $1,000 scholarships for college. The awards are made based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility and community service.

The foundation is also awarding a $10,000 grant on Saturday to Friends Way, a family bereavement center in Warwick, Rhode Island.
