Authorities say one person is dead and four other residents escaped with non-life threatening injuries after an early morning house fire in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Deputy Fire Chief Geoffrey Gardell says 64-year-old Lillie Jones was found on the second floor after becoming trapped by the two-alarm fire reported at about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Gardell says firefighters had a hard time accessing the second floor because of clutter and furniture in the home.
Gardell says there were no working smoke detectors in the building.
Two firefighters were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
No names were released.
He says the blaze appears to have started in the kitchen, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
