Laurie and Shawn Parks of Carp, Ontario, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor simple assault

The parents of a student hockey player have been accused of punching a 13-year-old player from an opposing team and kicking people after a game in Newport, Vermont.

The Caledonian Record reports
Laurie and Shawn Parks of Carp, Ontario, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor simple assault.

State Trooper Debra Munson wrote she responded to a complaint from a father who said a man identified as Shawn Parks punched his son, a member of a U.S. team, in the head at Jay Peak Resort on Jan. 24. The team had played a team from Ontario; both were at the hotel.

The father told police the Parks' son made offensive comments to a member of his son's team; his son stood up for his friend. A fight started and the Parks joined it.
