In Maine, it's not Black Friday door busters and mall shoppers bringing in the big bucks: this year's must-have item is the iconic Bean Boot by L.L. Bean.
The duck boot, which has remained relatively unchanged in design for 100 years, has recently surged in popularity.
"They're become kind of a fashion statement," said L.L. Bean spokesman Mac McKeever. The company has been working around the clock to keep up with the demand.
Since 2011, there has been a bean boot shortage. This holiday season, the company says there are already tens of thousands of pairs on back order.
"We're tickled with the success and popularity of the Bean Boot," said McKeever, "but we hate to disappoint customers. So we're making them as quickly as we can, without compromising quality."
The company has invested in new equipment and hired 100 additional workers to help manufacture the Maine-made boot.
If a customer is trying to get Bean Boots in time for Christmas, McKeever's advice is to go to a store and see if they have the size and style in stock.
