Reward Offered After Holocaust Memorial Vandalized With Pig Meat

A visitor noticed the pork on top of the memorial in Lynn, Mass.

The Anti-Defamation League is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect after a Holocaust memorial in Massachusetts was vandalized with pig meat.

Rabbi Lipsker of the Chabad Lubavitch of the North Shore says one of his members went to the Pride of Lynn Cemetery Tuesday night to visit the grave of a family member. During the visit, she noticed several pieces of pork dumped on top of the Holocaust memorial.

Natasha Soolkin immediately called Rabbi Lipsker and the Lynn Police Department.

According to Jewish law, pork is one of a number of foods forbidden to Jews. These foods are known as "non-kosher" foods.

There will be a gathering Friday at 10 a.m. at the memorial, in which people of all faiths are encouraged to attend, along with some politicians and community leaders.

Officials are not sure exactly when the vandalism happened or who is responsible for it.

The ADL is offering a $1,500 reward for any information that leads to the suspect's arrest.

"This acto fo hate on a community burial ground and Holocaust Memorial is appalling. An attack on a cemetery, a sacred gorund in every community, is an affront to people of all faiths and must move people to take action and speak out," ADL New England director Robert Trestan said in a statement.

If you have any information about this crime, please call Lynn police at 781-595-2000.

Police are treating this incident as a hate crime.
