Home Invasion Suspect Impersonates Police Officer

Major Thomas Verdi says the victim was confronted by a man with a crowbar in a black ski mask who shouted "police" and demanded his wallet

Police are investigating after a Providence, Rhode Island, home was turned over following a home invasion committed by a suspect who impersonated an officer while wielding a crowbar.

The Providence Journal reports the 26-year-old victim told police he was sleeping alone inside his Padelford Street home when he awoke just before 11 p.m. Monday to sounds of someone breaking down his back door.

Major Thomas Verdi says the victim was confronted by a man with a crowbar in a black ski mask who shouted "police" and demanded his wallet. The intruder also allegedly had some kind of badge dangling from his neck.

The victim gave the man his wallet and fled to a neighbor's house, where he called 911.

Responding officers found the house ransacked and no signs of the suspect.
