Homeowner Hospitalized, in Custody After Fire

A homeowner was taken into police custody and hospitalized after a fire broke out, completely destroying a home Thursday evening in Massachusetts.

State police assigned to the Massachusetts Fire Marshal's Office responded to the blaze at 138 Blackstone St. in Mendon. The bomb squad was on the scene, but no devices or explosives were found by authorities.

Fire officials say when they arrived after receiving a call just before 6 p.m., they found the man, since identified as David Cheschi, wrapped in electrical cords, in a van in the yard. He was not compliant with responders.

According to Mendon Fire, police had to tase the Cheschi to get him into custody. He was taken to the hospital and held on a Section 12 for a mental health crisis.

Officials say Cheschi is a suspect in the fire, and that he has made threats to local police in the past. He'll be arraigned on disorderly conduct, obstructing firefighting and interfering with firefighers charges in Milford District Court on Friday.

Cheschi has been ordered held without bail for a dangerous hearing that will take place March 13.
