Investigation Continues After Child Killed in Shed Fire

The young boy was trapped inside of the backyard shed around 5:30 Monday night

Officials on Cape Cod are continuing to investigate after an 8-year-old boy was found dead after a fire broke out in a shed behind a home in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Flames engulfed the backyard shed on Hinckley Street around 5:30 Monday night.

The young boy was trapped inside.

District Attorney Michael O'Keefe said the fire does not appear to be suspicious, calling it a tragic accident.

Investigators are trying to find out how the fire started and what led to it.

Emergency crews did what they could to fight the fire but later discovered the boy's remains.

Witnesses tell NECN three other kids were also in the shed.

Neighbors say they heard an explosion, then saw the flames and called 911.

Investigators have not released the name of the victim.
