Invigorating Spring Air Arrives, Bringing Some Rain

Partly cloudy and cool conditions prevail overnight tonight with lows in the 40s for most - a chilly night - before another day of sun and clouds with cool temperatures Friday

After two days of thunderstorms cropping up across New England, our Thursday will be somewhat quieter - though certainly still has brought noteworthy weather with enough cold air for sleet pellets this morning in the high terrain of Northern New England, including the summits of Mount Washington and Mount Mansfield!

In fact, atop Mount Washington, this morning's wind chill dipped below zero as wind gusted over 80 mph. For most of us, the weather is far more benign, but the cold air and wind aloft surely is making itself known in lower elevations with highs not exceeding 70 for many, and wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph from the west-northwest.

Cold air aloft often promotes healthy cumulus cloud development - puffy clouds - and that surely is the case today, with these clouds and sunny breaks doing battle for dominance in the sky of Southern New England, while the clouds will win in Northern New England with scattered afternoon showers.

Saturday continues to be our pick of the weekend with a light wind and highs reaching into the 70s with rain showers approaching...but holding off until evening and night.

A strong upper level atmospheric disturbance will ride over New England on Sunday, likely producing building clouds with some scattered showers and thunderstorms...particularly the farther north one is. Next week begins below the average high temperature of 78, but ends on a summery note by next weekend in our exclusive necn Early Warning Weather 10-day forecast.
