It's official: Boston is in the middle of a heat wave.
Boston jumped to 91 degrees Monday evening, marking the third day in a row the city hit 90 degree temperatures.
This is the first official heat wave since July 2013.
A sea breeze that developed made it very difficult for the temperature to reach 90 degrees, but winds coming from the west helped the raise the temperature.
In the northeast, a heat wave is declared when temperatures reach or exceed 90F on three consecutive days. Boston hit 91 degrees on Saturday, 90 on Sunday.
Numerous cities across New England, like Hartford and Springfield, have already hit heat waves and will likely do so again today.

All of this heat and humidity is courtesy of a building ridge of high pressure that will keep temperatures near 90 through Wednesday! Humidity levels will also be high across New England, pushing the heat index in some areas into the upper 90s. Expect the chance of scattered afternoon showers and Tuesday and Wednesday.
