U.S. Rep. Joe Kennedy III spent the day Sunday at multiple campaign-style events across Massachusetts, just one day after he formally declared he's running for the U.S. Senate.
The 38-year-old hosted a breakfast for supporters in Pittsfield, then visited a nonprofit for at-risk youth in Springfield. Later he met with LGBT asylum seekers in Worcester and even joined union workers in New Bedford, all before making an appearance at the Attleboro Art Museum.
When asked about his campaign strategy, Kennedy said, "Focus at home and make sure you’re going to every community across our Commonwealth that people are seeing you, that they are hearing you...that you are accessible and available to our residents so that they feel like their voices and their concerns are being absorbed by a senator and being informed, and therefore informing policies down in Washington DC."
Meanwhile, his primary challenger, 73-year-old incumbent Senator Ed Markey, attended one event Sunday at the American Legion Post in Newton.
There, he also shared his strategy, saying, "I'm going to run on the issues I've been leading on. On the climate crisis, the green new deal, on stronger gun safety laws, on ensuring we protect health care and education of every person not just in Massachusetts but across the entire country."
