Judge Denies Request to Throw Out Statements in Vermont Fatal Crash

Karri Benoir claimed police had violated her rights

Court papers show that police statements will remain as evidence in the case against a Barre woman accused of intentionally causing a fatal crash to try to take her own life.

The Burlington Free Press reports a judge recently denied Karri Benoir's request to have statements she allegedly made to Vermont State Police thrown out. Benoir claimed police had violated her rights.

The 24-year-old Benoir pleaded not guilty last year to second-degree murder and grossly negligent driving with death resulting charges stemming from the July 2015 crash that killed 30-year-old Brendon Cousino.

Benoir also pleaded not guilty in October to simple assault charges in an alleged altercation with an inmate at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility.

Benoir's lawyer declined to comment on the decision Wednesday.
