Lawyers Seek $300K in Estate Inheritance Case

The lawyers who overturned a fired Portsmouth, New Hampshire, police officer's $2 million inheritance from a woman's disputed will are asking for more than $300,000 in legal fees from the city.

The Portsmouth Herald reports attorney David Eby filed a motion in Strafford County probate court on behalf of two hospitals that financed the case.

The money they're seeking represents a portion of what the city is expected to receive from the estate of Geraldine Webber.

A judge in August dismissed Webber's 2012 will and trust, saying that former police Sgt. Aaron Goodwin acted on Webber's "fears and hopes" to extract her inheritance, which included a waterfront home, Cadillac, stocks and bonds.

City attorney Robert Sullivan says he plans to object to the lawyers' requests.
