The annual Leonid meteor shower peaks overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday.
Meteors, commonly referred to as shooting stars, occur when debris from space hits Earth’s atmosphere.
This will be a modest show, with 10 to 15 meteors visible per hour in dark areas away from city lights. The activity will be limited around midnight, but by the pre-dawn hours, the meteors should become easier to spot.
The moon will set late in the evening, allowing for extra dark conditions by the time the show peaks between about 2 a.m. and dawn.
It’s best to set up a chair or blanket and look right up at the sky.
Don’t forget to dress in layers! Lows overnight will be in the 20s and low 30s for most communities.
