A 22-year-old man was badly injured in a crash in Ledyard on Thursday morning when a guardrail went into the cabin of the truck, according to police.

A 19-year-old woman was driving a pickup in the 500 block Shewville Road, between Town Farm and Wolf Neck, just after 8:30 a.m. when she went off the road and hit a guardrail.

Police said the guardrail "penetrated the cabin area of the truck," and seriously injured the 22-year-old man.

Lifestar flew him to Hartford Hospital. An ambulance transported the driver to Pequot Medical Center and she has since been released.

Police are investigating and the road remains closed.
