Local officials and government agencies in Massachusetts took a moment to thank firefighters on social media on International Firefighters Day.
The day is a way for the community to give back and thank their local firefighters and fire departments for their service.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh stopped by Engine 21 to thank firefighters on Thursday morning.
Medford Mayor Mayor Burke posted a tweet that said, "Thank you to all of the #Medford firefighters who serve to protect our community and keep us safe every day!
Andover Police tweeted, "Shout-Out to our brothers and sisters wearing the "other" shade of blue. Happy #InternationalFirefightersDay Be safe out there!"
Mayor Marty Walsh and Commissioner and Chief Joe Finn will hold a ceremony at Engine 17/Ladder 7 Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
