Loved Ones Remember Journalist James Foley

Family, friends, and neighbors paid tribute to the journalist two months after he was killed by ISIS militants

On what would have been the journalist's 41st birthday, James Foley's brother, Michael, read a poem.

Loved ones were celebrating his life and the extraordinary work he did.

"What Jim did was he gave voice to people in places where there is no free speech or free press," said Rev. Marc Montminy. "He gave his life because of it."

More than 1,000 people filled Foley's hometown church Saturday in Rochester, New Hampshire.

It was just two months ago that he was executed by Islamic extremists in Syria after being held captive for two years.

Foley was a journalist with Boston-based Global Post who made it his mission to tell the stories of those impacted by war.

The mass was also a chance for the Foley family to thank all of those who have offered prayers and support over the last several years.

"We couldn't stand or walk, and I know Jimmy couldn't stand or survive as long as he did without all of you," said James' father, John Foley.
