Maine is getting a $100,000 grant to help develop clean energy projects for farmers, fishermen and other small business owners.

U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree says the grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will allow the Portland Council of Governments to work around the state with small businesses to plan clean energy projects that use renewable energy technology.

With that technical assistance, those businesses can then apply for significant federal funding to install clean energy systems that will help lower and stabilize energy costs, including solar and geothermal.

The $100,000 will be used on education, outreach and technical assistance.

Pingree calls the program a great investment in our rural economy.
