Maine Hospital Reopening Psychiatric Unit

The agreement allows the Westbrook hospital to operate at its full 100-bed capacity

Spring Harbor Hospital in Maine is reopening a 12-bed psychiatric unit after reaching a funding agreement with the state.

The agreement allows the Westbrook hospital to operate at its full 100-bed capacity. It will allow patients to leave the hospital sooner and transition to the right level of care in the community, hospital president Mary Jane Krebs said in a statement.

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday announced the agreement but provided no financial details.

Spring Harbor is the only nonprofit, private psychiatric hospital in Southern Maine.
