A Republican lawmaker in Maine has apologized for sending an insulting email to a Massachusetts woman who criticized him and others for not holding Gov. Paul LePage accountable for his recent actions.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Rep. Stephen Wood of Greene apologized to both his constituents and Laurie Hunt on Wednesday.

Hunt, the sister of House Democratic Leader Jeff McCabe, had sent emails to dozens of Republican lawmakers saying she won't visit Maine again if they continue to stand by LePage, who recently threatened a lawmaker and blamed blacks and Hispanics for fueling the opioid epidemic.

Wood responded with a harshly worded email to Hunt in which he sarcastically thanked her for not coming to Maine. McCabe shared the email on Facebook, calling it "troubling."
