Maine Lobster Festival Prepares for Close with Races and Butter

This year's Maine Lobster Festival is entering its final day with a series of races followed by one last lobster feast.

The road races are scheduled to start Sunday morning in Rockland, where the festival is held every summer. The festival began in 1947 and has been a major tourist draw in Midcoast Maine ever since.

The festival also includes a carnival, art show, Coast Guard base tours and crate race. Lobster serving ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday. The festival goes through about 1,700 pounds of butter along with 20,000 pounds of lobster.

This year's lobster festival began on Wednesday and featured Smash Mouth as its headliner on Saturday.
