Maine Man Due on Trial This Week

A Maine man who hid in the woods for a week after the fatal shooting of his girlfriend two years ago is due to go on trial this week.

Jury selection was due to begin Monday in the trial of Jesse Marquis (mar-KEE') in Aroostook County.

Police say he fled into the woods after leaving a home where the body of 31-year-old Amy Theriault (TEHR'-ee-oh) was found.

Police say the victim had broken up with Marquis and was staying with friends when Marquis showed up with a rifle. An autopsy concluded she died from a gunshot wound to the chest and multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck.

Marquis was captured in June 2014 with help from a bloodhound from New Hampshire's Stafford County Sheriff's Department.
